The 85 are a monoque design (teardrop shape, whirlpool side blades) and basalt fibre (volcanic rock) braking surface. These rims are superior in design, side wall strength and aerodynamics.
The rim is manufactured from 100% 3k high modulus carbon fibre allowing the spokes nipples to be hidden in the rim. The alloy hex head nipple then near doubles the contact area. Compared to other products, a Zipp rim for example, this makes the wheels stronger and more reliable in this vulnerable area. It also improves the overall wheel aerodynamics.
